Samsung’s ISOCELL technology separates each pixel with partitions to prevent light interference where light leaks between pixels of different colors. ISOCELL technology was delopted, light reaches each photodiode accurately. It means greatly improved color reproduction and much lower noise.

Also, the structure and materials of each part of the pixel have been improved so that even the slightest bit of light can be utilized well. In the latest ISOCELL technology, the grid between same-colored color filters have been removed and the walls between photodiodes have been upgraded to reduce optical loss to a minimum.

ISOCELL applies pixel binning technology that uses a different pixel arrangement to always provide an optimized image even in a constantly changing light environment. Following Samsung’s Tetrapixel that can bin 4 pixels, and Nonapixel that can bin 9 pixels, Tetra²pixel, the latest technology, can bin up to 16 pixels.

When it is dark, some adjourning pixels are grouped together to act as one large pixel. These newly created large pixels have a much larger light receiving area, so each pixel can collect a lot more information, even in the dark.

Conversely, in a bright environment, you can take a picture using all the individual pixels by applying the remosaic algorithm to rearrange the pixels into an RGB pattern.
