EHS organizationTo put the safety of Samsung Semiconductor and partner employees first, Samsung Semiconductor has set up an EHS organization. Teams of EHS experts and engineers practice the Environmental Safety Ten Commandments, which form the basis of safety protocols informed by the principle that environmental safety is the number one priority in all businesses and strive to create a culture of safety culture throughout the supply chain.
Responsible chemical managementSamsung Semiconductor enforces strict policies and advanced chemical management systems to protect employees at all sites around the world as well as the local communities. Partners also follow hazardous material policies and safely manage, store, use, dispose and recycle chemicals that have undergone rigorous evaluations.
Independent fire stationsSamsung Semiconductor operates its own 24-hour fire and chemical leak response teams on all sites to respond quickly within the golden hour in case of emergency situations such as fires and patients and offers support to local communities to minimize physical and human disasters.
Health and safety management system certificationAll Samsung Semiconductor sites follow health and safety management systems. After acquiring the ISO 45001 certification, the world's international standard for occupational health and safety, since 2018, all Samsung Semiconductor sites in Korea have been making the transition from OHSAS18001 to ISO 45001. As of late 2020, all Samsung Semiconductor manufacturing sites around the world have adopted the ISO 45001 standard and have set up health and safety management protocols that follow the new standard.

SHRI, the first health research institute in the semiconductor industryIn 2010, Samsung Semiconductor opened the Samsung Health Research Institute or SHRI. SHRI is the first in the industry for workplace health and employee health research and studies potential hazardous substances, work environment and occupational dynamics.
Annual health checkups and special health screeningsSamsung Semiconductor abides by the Occupational Safety and Health Act and offers annual health checkups to all employees. Samsung Semiconductor operates on-site health clinics that can carry out up to 150 physical exams a day. Comprehensive physical exams are conducted every year, every two years or every four years based on the employee’s age. Employees who handle chemicals are given special health checkups and are regularly monitored for any changes in health.
First company in Korea to have on-site COVID-19 testingDuring the COVID-19 pandemic, Samsung Semiconductor became the first private company in Korea to set up on-site COVID-19 testing facilities. Medical staff provide consultations in addition to collecting samples. The test results come out within 24 hours.
FIn-house medical careAt Samsung Semiconductor, in-house medical care is available to employees any time during work hours, from dental, otolaryngology, dermatology and internal medicine to Chinese medicine and a pharmacy. There is also a Counselling Center and Mind Wellbeing Office, a mental health clinic.
