FAQs

  • RDIMM (registered memory) attaches a register between the CPU and the DRAM chip for data transmission, which reduces the distance of parallel transmission and improves transmission efficiency. it is a type of memory chip utilized most often in servers. It provides better stability and scalability for systems running on a server by putting a less electrical load on a memory controller.
  • RDIMMs are easier to increase in capacity and frequency than UDIMMs due to their high register efficiency. Moreover, RDIMM supports buffered and high-performance registered mode, making it more stable than UDIMM. This gives it the highest-capacity server RAM performance and a wide range of applications in the server RAM market.
  • A motherboard is designed to support either an RDIMM or a UDIMM. but not both since these two DIMMs use different technologies and architectures. Using both won’t harm the system, but it will be unusable. The system will show an error once the motherboard detects an incompatible memory installed and will only function again once you put in the correct memory module.
